Thanks to over 500 bird species, the accessibility of birdwatching sites and the possibilities of observation all year round, Iran can be considered as the paradise of birders. This diversity, beside migrants which pass through the country make Iran an ideal avifauna for amateurs who are interested to watch the birds of three continents.

Day 1: Arrive Tehran

You will be met on arrival at IKA Airport and transferred to the hotel.

Day 3: Fereydunkenar - Miankaleh

In the morning, embark on birding in Fereydunkenar Wetland where you can find the only surviving Siberian crane, which migrates to Iran every year in the winter. In addition, Fereydunkenar Wetland is an excellent habitat for goose, Cormorants, Pelican, Falcon, etc. In the evening, depart for Miankaleh Peninsula.

Day 5: Miankaleh

Continue birding in Miankaleh Peninsula and catch up on the species you missed the last day.

Day 7: Shahrood - Ghale Bala

Depart for Touran National Park, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site as a natural biosphere reserve. On this day, your primary target is Plesk Ground Jay, endemic to the eastern deserts of Iran. In addition, you may bird other species such as Egyptian Vulture, Cream-coloured Courser, Black-bellied, Macqueen’s Bustard and Crowned Sandgrouse. Spend the night in Ghale Bala Village.

Day 9: Ghale Bala - Semnan

Depart for Parvar Protected Area for a full day of bird watching. Spend the night in Semnan.

Day 11: Semnan - Tehran

In the morning, you depart for Tehran, the capital of Iran. First, visit Golestan Palace, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a brilliant example of an important period in the history of Persia where the society starts a new era of modernism. Then go for a stroll in Grand Bazar of Tehran in the afternoon.

Day 13: Tehran Departure

Transfer to IKA Airport for your flight home.

Day 2: Tehran - Fereydunkenar

Start your exploration in Tehran by strolling in Jamshidieh Park, which offers towering trees, beautiful ponds and fountains. Afterwards, visit Sa’dabad Complex, including 18 palaces and the residential site of two former kings of Iran, which was also the host of Tehran Conference in 1943. Then, depart Tehran for Fereydunkenar and stay overnight there.

Day 4: Miankaleh

You will spend whole day birding in Miankaleh Peninsula, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site as a natural biosphere reserve. On a good day, you can expect to see Great Crested, Eared and Little Grebes, Greater Flamingo, Squacco Heron, Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Black-winged Stilt, Northern Lapwing.

Day 6: Miankaleh - Shahroud

Depart for Shahroud. On the way, visit Khosh Yeilagh Protected Area, which possess a high bio-diversity due to being located between desert and forest. In this area you can see Eagle, Barbary falcon, Bustard, Quail, Partridge, etc. Spend overnight in Shahroud.

Day 8: Ghale Bala

Continue birding in Touran and catch up on the species you missed the last day. It is a good opportunity for you to Watch migrant birds passing over the deserts of Iran in both spring and autumn. Stay overnight in Ghale Bala Village.

Day 10: Semnan

Start your day with a drive to Parvar Protected Area, home to a vast range of Aras and semi-Hyrcanian Forests. The special bio-diversity in this area attracts different bird species such as Saker Falcon, Caspian Snowcock, Finsch’s and Kurdish Wheatears, Alpine and Radde’s Accentors, European Stonechat, Mistle Thrush, etc.

You may also encounter other species such as Eurasian Griffon, Water Pipit, Alpine Swift, Golden Eagle, See-see Partridge, Chukar and Rufous-tailed Rock-thrush. At the end, you get back to Semnan and spend overnight there.

Day 12: Tehran

Drive to Band Ali Khan Wetland and watch birds the whole day. This wetland is the winter habitat of birds such as Mallard, Eurasian teal, Greenshank and Northern pintail. Then get back to Tehran and stay overnight at the hotel.
